We artists generally don’t like to have to explain ourselves too often. If someone looks at an image that I’ve created, or reads a poem that I’ve written, and just “gets” it, then I’ve done my job. This blog allows me to express myself without having to say a whole lot. Talking, in my opinion, is highly overrated.
However, I often forget that my mom reads this site. This blog has become an alternate way for Mom way to get updates on me, my life, and what I’m up to. So when dark little phrases jump into my head, and I turn them into poems, I pay the price in the form of frantic phone messages from my mother - is everything OK?
Therefore, this week’s post is just to say that yes, mom. Everything is OK. Like all humans, I’m happy, I’m sad, I feel like dancing, I want to kick someone in the head. But unlike all humans, I just express those emotions. A lot.
Poor woman, you gave birth to an emotive daughter. Sorry for the worry. I simply can’t help myself.
