Sometimes, on the weekends, I’ll drag the husband off to look at overpriced Bay Area homes for sale. You know, for fun! The homes I choose generally seem to be the silly houses that no one else wants - falling down, vines growing through the roof, tiny lot. A couple of months back, I managed to find a home built into a hillside so steep that it would give the owner vertigo just walking out on the deck.
Me: Who would do the maintenance on this house when we’re old? I can just see you now, an old man, trying to climb up the side of this steep treehouse to fix the siding. No way.
Husband: Honey, don’t discourage your 80-year-old husband from climbing up a rickety extension ladder. I can do it!
The image of my willful, skinny-legged, grey-haired, 80-year-old husband had me laughing so hard that I was thinking we should buy the house just to see how this one plays out.
