I come from an enormous family. Grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins - they were, and still are, a significant part of my life.
Of course, there are some family members who just stand out as special. My Aunt Diane and Uncle Ralph are two such people. (Uncle Ralph always getting second billing, somehow, because “Uncle Ralph and Aunt Diane” would just sound wrong.) Throughout my life, these two have been involved, concerned and interested in me as a person. Even though my aunt and uncle have their own children and grandchildren, they make sure we stay in touch, come visit me when I’m in town, and send the occasional e-mail. Aunt D and Uncle R have an enormous capacity for sharing their love, not only with me, but with our entire family. And with each other.
My Aunt and Uncle are celebrating their fiftieth wedding anniversary this year. After all these years, they still laugh together. I am so glad that they have been able to make each other as happy as they have made the rest of us, because they deserve the best.
