So young. So hip. So many silly hats. | 1994 | Copyright 1994

Last weekend, the city of San Francisco ever-so-graciously hosted the Outside Lands concert in Golden Gate Park. Rather than cough up our entire savings account for tickets, my husband and I decided to walk over to the park to see what we could see. And to hear what we could hear.
Descending down toward the concert was like walking back in time. Even though I’ve gotten [ahem] slightly older, the ultra-hip youth have remained eerily the same. The alternative punkish crowd, the granola hippies, the rastafarians and the tattooed-ankle sorority girls were out in full force. The experience had me feeling nostalgic for the days when being responsible was merely an option.
Being around so many identity-seeking youth also dredged up those strong feelings of insecurity that I harbored throughout my twenties. Sure, we had a blast. But thank heavens I finally stopped trying on personas and figured out who I really was. Thank heavens I finally grew up.
